PEORIA COUNTY (25News Now) - A man has been arrested in connection with shots fired at deputies in March.

Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says Qualin C. Lewis was arrested for numerous weapons offenses, including possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon and a Department of Corrections parole warrant.

Lewis was arrested in an apartment in the 2800 block of Ann Street at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday by the sheriff’s office, Peoria Police Department and the ATF.

Officers found a Draco AK--47 pistol in the apartment where Lewis was located.

Watkins says more charges could be added later by the state’s attorney’s office.

The incident happened around 12:16 am. March 16 when deputies were dispatched to the 2800 block of West Ann for a four-round ShotSpotter alert.

When they arrived, a black man wearing a hoodie was located - who then immediately fired several shots at the two deputies.

The deputies were not injured.

2 firearms and shell casings were recovered from that scene. One of the weapons was stolen from Chicago.
