Man arrested in connection to beating death of 63-year-old in front of convenience store - WAFB

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A man was arrested in connection to the beating death of a 63-year-old man outside of a convenience store in Baton Rouge.

On Tuesday, June 20, the U.S. Marshals Office Fugitive Task Force arrested Chadrick Williams, 41, in Jackson, La. with the help of a Crime Stoppers tip.

On Thursday, June 22, Williams was extradited and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for second-degree murder, a spokesman with the Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed.

The man beaten to death was identified as Hosea Jackson, 63. Family members confirmed that Jackson is the father of BRPD Cpl. Montrell Jackson, one of the officers killed in the 2016 law enforcement ambush in Baton Rouge.

The incident happened outside the Triple S Food Mart on North Foster Drive near Fairfields Avenue on June 1.

According to arrest records, surveillance video shows Jackson trying to de-escalate an argument between himself and another person who had been following him toward the convenience store.

Jackson was walking away from the argument when the person kicked him and punched him in the face, according to arrest records.

The victim tried to defend himself when a second person, identified as Williams, comes from behind and hits him in the face, making him fall to the ground, according to arrest records.

Officials report that Williams stomped on Jackson’s neck and kicked him in the face while he was laying on the ground, rendering him unresponsive.

Hosea Jackson was rushed to a hospital and died as a result of his injuries on Sunday, June 4, police said.

BRPD said that autopsy results ruled Jackson’s death a homicide because of injuries to his head and neck area.
