2 men sought for questioning in connection with Stapleton grand larceny, phone scam - SILive.com

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYPD is asking for the public’s help to identify two men sought for questioning in connection with an alleged grand larceny in Stapleton.

Beginning on June 14, at 9 a.m., an unknown individual contacted an 87-year-old female via telephone stating that a family member was arrested and needed money for bail, according to a written statement from the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The individual met the victim at her home in the vicinity of Gordon Street and Warren Street, and collected approximately $3,000 from her, the police statement said.

On June 16, at 12:30 p.m., a second unknown individual met the 87-year-old victim at her home and collected an additional $5,000 from her, according to police.

An investigation determined that the victim’s family member was not in any legal trouble, and the victim gave the individuals the money in good faith based on false statements/promises.

The NYPD released surveillance photos of an individual sought for questioning in connection with the case, including an image of a man exiting a white Honda Accord with a New York license plate.
