Georgia football: New support staffer has interesting connection with UGA player - 247Sports

On Sunday, Desert Pines High School assistant coach David Hill announced he was headed to Athens as a player connection coordinator and an offensive analyst for the Bulldogs. The move was a big one for Hill, who likely landed on Georgia’s radar in the first place thanks to his ties to one Bulldogs player.

Hill not only coached Georgia tight end Darnell Washington at Desert Pines in Las Vegas, Nevada, but he was a mentor to the five-star prospect. Per a story from Bleacher Report’s Adam Kramer back in 2019, “Aside from Ezekiel [Darnell’s older brother] and Katrina [his mother], no one knows Darnell as well as Hill, his coach at Desert Pines and much more than that. He is a resource. A friend. A disciplinarian. He is also Darnell’s companion on all of his recruiting visits.”

While his relationship with Washington is well established, Hill has worked to earn his opportunity with the defending national champions.

A former fullback at Arizona, Hill returned to Desert Pines — his high school alma mater — after his playing days were done and spent over a decade on staff. Per Football Scoop, Hill taught life skills classes at Desert Pines and helped over 150 students earn scholarships while also helping 100% of his students graduate.

Hill made the announcement on social media and ended his message with, “From Desert Pines HS to the National Champions! Against All Odds!”
